We have such a fabulous club and I am so pleased to be a part of a group of friends and community leaders that demonstrate in their everyday lives the good of being a Rotarian. I value Rotary as an avenue of opportunity for all of us as volunteers to help others in our community and around the world and in the process we become better people. The Rotary Club of Mill Valley has so much to be proud of through the years. Our club is one of the oldest clubs in Marin County with this being our 85th year. We have a past District Governor in our esteemed member Dale Luehring. We were the first club in Marin to admit women members
and have subsequently had five women serve as president of our club. We have an extraordinary list of causes, groups and organizations that we have donated money to and our members have contributed their time, effort and expertise to many wonderful local and international projects. A few of the activities that we participate in on an annual basis include co-sponsoring the Senior Prom at the Redwoods Retirement Center, planting trees at Bayfront Park on Mill Valley Beautification Day, selling drinks and ice cream at the Mountain Play booth, packing boxes for the Marin Food Bank, trying to bowl at least our age in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake, helping re-construct paths for the Mill Valley Steps, Lanes and Paths, sporting a close to winning team in the Bocce Ball Tournament to benefit Rotaplast and maintaining the garden at the Terwilliger Marsh. We are proud to sponsor a very active Interact Club at Tamalpais High School which currently has over 65 members. We are the charter club for the Mill Valley Boy Scout Troop and enlist their help on many of our community projects. We have a strong commitment to supporting our schools and have donated over $20,000 per year for dictionaries, educational resources and scholarships. Our membership is made up of an outstanding group of people representing an interesting slice of our community. I encourage you to join us for lunch to learn more about Rotary, hear our great speakers and enjoy the fellowship of our club. It is an opportunity you don't want to miss. Yours In Rotary, Jim Simkalo President 2011-2012 The Rotary Club of Mill Valley, California
